Mother Nature decided to shake things up in Southern California on Independence Day.

Around 10:33 on Thursday morning, a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit the Southern California city of Ridgecrest.

The good news is nobody died. The bad news is folks have to spend a lot of money to fix up their property. Ceilings cracked, light fixtures fell down, tables were broken, the lights went out, and fires broke out. But still, nobody died. Everybody survived.

There were several aftershocks with the lowest coming in at 3.5 and the highest at 4.7. Folks over in Las Vegas and Los Angeles felt the effects, from the earthquake, just a little bit. The pool water did a little wave and the pebbles on the beach did the shake.

Now, don’t y’all go thinking that just because everybody lives to feel an aftershock for another day that this isn’t important.

Ridgecrest is a town of 29,000 people who don’t have the money that the folks in Los Angeles have.

The Ridgecrest folks can’t just go into their bank accounts and pull the money out to fix everything up. So, they’re going to need a lot help. And help is what California Gov. Gavin Newsom is going to give them.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency and promises to get things back on the up and up.
